Eat our Cumin Seeds with a Sunday roast. Cumin adds depth to meaty dishes. Mix some cumin seeds into Dijon mustard, then rub all over your beef or lamb roast. Or mix cumin seeds and honey to make a glaze for roast carrots.

Why not try swapping your full English for a Middle Eastern. Fry some cumin seeds, red chilli seeds and minced garlic in olive oil. Tip in a tin of chopped tomatoes. Crack your eggs directly on top of the tomatoes, and poach gently. Serve on toast or a warm flatbread.

ORIGIN

Though mostly associated with Indian curries and Middle Eastern stews, the ancient Greeks and Romans were fond of cumin too, in medicines and skin creams. And in the Middle Ages, people were known to carry a little cumin in their pocket to ward off bad luck.

The seeds come from a herb that's in the same family as parsley, with an unmistakably musty aroma. Often used to season meat, you can also use it to add warmth and depth to vegetarian dishes.
