Cole & Mason Whole Nutmeg
Eat our Whole Nutmeg with a cannelloni. Grate nutmeg into cooked chopped spinach, with cheese, egg and parmesan. Use as the filling for a cannelloni – an Italian classic. Or add to a pizza. Grate plenty of whole nutmeg onto a kale, pine nut and ricotta pizza. The warmth of the nutmeg elevates the subtle tastes.
Why not try sweetening mulled wine. Grate a little nutmeg into a steaming mug of mulled wine for a warming treat on cold nights. Or add a few shavings to a spicy butternut soup with cayenne peppers and cinnamon. The mix of sweet and spicy is winter-warmer fuel.
Nutmeg comes from the Banda Islands of Maluku, Indonesia – also known as the Spice Islands. It was traded by Arabs during the Middle Ages to cater for aristocratic tastes.
Now it’s grown almost everywhere, though the trees do best in tropical conditions near the sea.
